Depaul or WIU?
That is the question

First of all, Bonne Année to all of you!
This is one of my last posts in France. On Monday, I am leaving home and flying to Linköping.
We finished our “French semester” and I can’t wait to be in Sweden! Those first four months seemed really short; we couldn’t believe we already had to leave Lyon. But this first Atlantis experience was amazing, better than anything I was expecting. During those four months, we did our best to show the “French way of life” to the Swedish and American guys. I hope they enjoyed it and will be our guides in Sweden and America (I know they will. They already did actually…)
I am starting to pack for Sweden, but the weird thing is that I am thinking of anything but the States for the moment. In fact, because the program offers us two options for the university we will go to (Western Illinois University or DePaul University), we have to choose the one we prefer.
The thing is that we have to split equally: 3 French and 3 Swedish at DePaul, 3 French and 3 Swedish at WIU. Because most of us want to go to DePaul, we have to write an cover letter. This and the grades we’ve had at the ECE Lyon will allow the responsibles of the program to decide who is going to DePaul and who is going to WIU.
And of course, because I can’t do anything simple: I want to go to DePaul…
I have discovered Information Technology with Richard McAndrew and I really loved it. I am curious to discover something new, be able to do something more and ad this skill to my business and international experience.
I was not really sure that I would like it at the beginning, because Richard’s class was really focus on the business relation with IT and the classes at DePaul are much more technical. But Vince who is studying there told me that it was something really interesting, useful, new for me and that I would definitely like it a lot. I was afraid that I would never be able to follow those classes but the level is adapted for someone who never did this so I should be able to follow. Maybe I will finally be able to change the design of my blog, I’ve never liked it but I don’t really know how to improve it…
I bought a blog designer software 3 month ago, but with no user guide furnished (I know, I couldn’t believe it either. A huge box for… a CD, and nothing else.), I’ve never been able to create something that actually works. ( I managed to have a blog, that’s a start…)
But I want to work on it in Sweden, to be able to design it as I want. I will maybe be able to have my French and English travel blogs on the same platform! But this will require some help from the DePaul guys and a lot, a lot, a lot of work from Marie…
But beside the program, I also love the way the school is integrated into the city life. In fact, DePaul students can work with the communities of Chicago. This community involvement is something that I find interesting. It would be a unique possibility for me to discover from the inside one of the aspects of America that is reputed to be a lot different from the French one: the way social assistance is organized.
And I think the fact students have to deal with the reality of the city they live in is great, it allows us to apply the concepts we learn in class and provide some help in the same time.
Moreover, I have never been to the States before and Chicago is a city that fascinates me. There are 4 cities I want to visit in the US: Chicago, New York, San Francisco and New Orleans (I live next to the “old” one, Orléans, a French city…)
Anyway, I really hope I will be able to go there. I just read what I wrote, and I believe I have been working on this letter for too long, it sounds surprisingly “formal”…
But I am so excited, I can’t wait to be in the States, I want to do everything now but I also want this to last as long as possible.
So for the moment, pack for Linköping, get psychologically ready for the cold weather of Sweden and enjoy the 6 months we will spend there. And after this only start planning my stay in America…
I let you know as soon as I know it were I am going to study next year, I have to send my letter before the 15th. So if you don’t mind, from the 15th of January until they tell me if I’m accepted at DePaul, could you send all your good vibes to my cover letter for DePaul? That would be nice…
Merci et à bientôt!
